Chief of Meteorology, Chris Bedford, CCM

With over 25 years experience as an environmental consultant and manager of commercial weather forecasting operations, Chris is respected world-wide for his experience and expertise in marine and coastal meteorology. As an environmental consultant, Bedford has managed numerous air quality and meteorological studies, with a particular emphasis on wind profiles and stability in coastal environments. As an operational meteorologist, Chris managed forecast operations for large power utilities, energy traders, State, and Local government agencies, and numerous popular media outlets.

Since founding EPIC’s partner Sailing Weather Service, LLC, with a single customer in 1998, revenue has increased 10-fold in ten years and has become a premier provider of customized wind forecasts to high-demand marine customers. Customers include Fortune-50 firms and high demand users of detailed wind information, world-wide.

Chris is an American Meteorological Society Certified Consulting Meteorologist, Past President of the National Council of Industrial Meteorologists, awarded the 2004 US Sailing President’s Trophy, and a 2009 University of Michigan Alumni Society Merit Award recipient.

Chief of Modeling & Statistics, Matthew Jones, MSc

Matthew provides the technological foundation for every EPIC project. A nationally recognized and published expert in the application of high resolution ensemble modeling systems, Matthew developed multiple large modeling clusters during his graduate research. Working with Sailing Weather Service, LLC since 2004, he developed a globally re-locatable modeling system, which can be applied to focus on locations with forecasts down to 1 km resolution out to 120 hours anywhere in the world. He has applied this high-resolution modeling system to dozens of projects spanning five continents.

Matthew founded EPIC during his graduate studies at Stony Brook University and was contracted by BMW Oracle Racing in their quest for the 2007 America's Cup. From this and many other coastal weather modeling contracts, Matthew has collected significant coastal meteorology and offshore weather modeling experience across the globe.
